- Layout: A4, Portrait. Margins: 4 cm (left/right) and 4.8 cm (top/bottom). Multiple pages: “Mirror margins”. Headers and Footers “Different first pages” and “Different odd and even pages”; 4.8 cm Header, 4.6 Footer.
- Title will be written in Cambria 14, bold, centered. Authors will also indicate a short (running) title. Authors are written in Cambria 12, centered. The affiliation and the corresponding author must be indicated in Cambria 9 italics, as follows: 1Institution, City, Country; 2Institution, City, Country (in case of a different affiliation); *Corresponding author, E-mail: xxxxxx@xxxxxxxx.
- Main text will be written in Cambria 11, justify and at single line spacing. The text will be clearly structured into: ”Abstract”, ”Keywords”, “Introduction”, “Materials and methods”, “Results”, ”Discussion” and “Conclusions”. Acknowledgements are not mandatory, but inclusion of funding acknowledgements is strongly recommended (written in Cambria 10).
- References: In the main text, the authors will be mentioned with their first names, followed by the year of publication within brackets (Johnson, 1998; Webbs and Johnson, 2000; Johnson et al., 2001). At the end of text, the references are listed alphabetically, using Cambria 10. Where available, URLs for the references must be provided.

Miscellaneous:
- In the text, the figures and tables should be indicated within the brackets as follows: (Fig. 1) or (Fig. 1 and 2) or (Fig. 1 a, b), and (Tab. 1) or (Tabs. 1 and 2), respectively. The figure caption should be written below the figure, in Cambria 10, centered. The table caption should be written above the table, in Cambria 10 centered. Figures and tables will be provided in the text of the manuscript.
- Genus and species names should be in italics. When a species name is used for the first time in an article, it should be stated in full, and the name of its describer should also be given. Expressions in Latin, Greek or languages other than English should be also typed in Italics.
- Formulas should be centered, marked in the margin with an Arabic numeral in brackets, and separated from the text above and below by a blank line.
- Symbols and combined expressions must be presented using negative exponents. Examples: µg L-1; kg m-2 s-1 etc.
Reviews represent syntheses of different topics in biology. Reviews are peer-reviewed and receive doi numbers. They should not exceed 30 pages (in Studia UBB Biologia format).
Short communications are considered brief original research articles. They may focus on a particular aspect of a problem. They are peer-reviewed and they receive doi numbers. They should not exceed 10 pages (in Studia UBB Biologia format).
Abstracts are summaries of original research articles. They might be peer-reviewed in certain cases (e.g. collection of conference abstracts) but they do not receive doi numbers. They should not exceed 3 pages (in Studia UBB Biologia format).
In memoriam are manuscripts that honor a deceased personality.
They are published in English and should not exceed 5 pages (in Studia UBB Biologia format).
Book reviews are presentations of original books. They are not peer-reviewed, and do not receive doi numbers. They should not exceed 10 pages (in Studia UBB Biologia format).
