Starting with the late 1960s, West German society was characterized by a wide generation gap. After German unification, it was found that there had been no similar trend in East Germany. Today, however, there are increasing signs of a growing generation gap in the Eastern part of the country. The findings indicate that in the wake of a change in the political system, intergenerational communication problems arise once the first generation comes of age in the new political system.
