THE NATION STATE AS SUBDUED HISTORY / DER NATIONALSTAAT ALS ÜBERWUNDENE GESCHICHTE
Keywords:
nation-building, nation-state, history, remembrance, oblivionAbstract
This paper deals with the issue of nation and nation-state as community of remembrance and oblivion. The starting point is the re-naming of Cluj in 1974, when it became Cluj-Napoca. As odd as it appears, what Ceauşescu did was in fact only a pathological form of a late nation-building, because oblivion is an essential part of this process as well as of the consolidation of the nation-state.
