About the Journal

Studia Universitatis Babeş-Bolyai Historia has been published continuously since its first issue in 1956, as part of Studia UBB series, under the editorship of Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj. It was published annually from the beginning until 1962 and, again, between 1974 and 1990, when it became a biannual serial publication. Studia UBB Historia is the longest-lived journal series established and maintained by historians and researchers at the Faculty of History and Philosophy of BBU.

Aims and Scope

In over five decades of uninterrupted publishing, Studia UBB Historia has consistently promoted a high professional standard and advanced innovative historiographical research subjects from a thematic and methodological perspective, in line with History as a whole, as well as with the national history.

Throughout the years, Studia UBB Historia tackled a variety of areas and themes of research, from ancient, medieval, modern and contemporary history, with contributions from the field of social history, the history of institutions, history of mentalities, history of collective imaginary, history of historiography, the history of ideas and intellectual life, history of religious life, the history of communism or the new cultural history, as well as debates on the current status of historians and history researchers, thus revealing and highlighting  the evolution of knowledge in the respective field.

Since 2011, Studia Historia is published exclusively in some of the major world languages (notably in English), and the members of the four major Departments in our Faculty (Ancient history and archaeology, Medieval and premodern history, Modern history and contemporary history) take turns as coordinating editors for each issue of the journal. This editorial strategy of tackling a large range of research subjects, addressing different chronological segments in history, that are circumscribed, however, to the Central European region, explains the thematic diversity of the issues of Studia Historia series. The structure of the publication remains broadly the same: it comprises a consistent section of articles and studies, one of debates and perspectives on major avenues of research / major contributions and a set of critical reviews related to the main topic of the current issue. From time to time, the profile of a historian is included in the volume, enhanced by a presentation of the personality and work of the honouree, as well as an interview with the prominent scholar.

Studia Universitatis Babeş-Bolyai Historia aims the introduction in the academic circuit and the efficient promotion of the historiographical contributions of the historians from Cluj, the consecration of the critic spirit, the upgrading of Romanian research to general knowledge, the recognition of a highly qualified institution of historic debate, at academic level, concerning the aspects of researchers’ forming and the discipline’s status in an open society, the promotion of young researchers.

We strive towards a number of goals, of which we hereby mention the most important:
• consolidate its position as an academic journal with international impact by increasing the visibility of published articles through its presence in relevant international databases and library catalogues,
• invite contributions to themed issues on topics of high significance for the corresponding subdomain,
• promote and disseminate the results of original and innovative research.
• distributing the publication abroad orders.
• increasing the number of articles written by foreign authors.
• increasing the quality of graphics of the printed publications.
